Aeron Tozier, Architect/Designer
United States, 1970
"I am foremost a designer, as were Wright and Lautner.
The study has interested me; bits and chunks and schools of thought.
Tschumi on space, International and in a modern age.
Find every imaginable application in beauty;
attention and homage work well,
as does love."
Aeron Tozier is an American architect and industrial designer. He was raised in Singapore, Korea and Japan before returning to the United States for high school in the San Francisco Bay Area. Having an maritime engineer as a father, he gained an affinity for design and engineering and learned drafting at an early age. While accepting a scholarship at the University of Oklahoma, a chance visit to mid-century architect, Bruce Goff’s Bavinger Residence in Norman Oklahoma sparked a self initiation into the sect of modern architecture known as, “organic.” He transferred and completed his architectural degree at the University of Hawaii and was awarded an apprenticeship under Carey Smoot, an organic architect, most reknowned for his design for the Paul Mitchell Estate. Smoot had also worked with E. Stewart Williams and John Lautner and on buildings in Palm Springs; thus Tozier considers himself in lineage to the father of organic architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright. Among his other influences are Kenzo Tange (Japan), Eero Saarinen (Finland), Buckminster Fuller (United States), and Paolo Soleri (Italy). His friendships over the years have included the late Julius Shulman, the world renowned modernist photographer who iconized American mid-century design and Kendrick Bangs Kellogg, the eccentric Southern California organic architect acclaimed for residences such as the High Desert Home in Yucca Valley and Wingsweep in Temecula. Tozier's extensive academic and post-graduate work includes the winning of the prestigious, AIA Hart Wood Award for Excellence in Design as well as a 3 year as a research scholarship in construction process innovation and energy systems where his work on sustainable city projects in Southeast Asia has been funded by the Rockefeller Foundation. Most of his professional work has been involved in the prototyping of modern ecological community and housing solutions. His, "G-Home Energy Hybrid," a design for a hyper-ecological dwelling is being reviewed for use by FEMA and the United Nations (UN-HABITAT). His private residential work includes the Blackburn Residence, a $3.7m private estate for an art collector. Coupled with his personal passion for humanitarian design is a fervor for unbridled elegance in luxury design. Through his extensive travel and personal studies, he has gained a uniquely rich and diverse knowledge of global arts, architecture and culture in which he applies to his conceptual work toward this vision. He has continued to maintain a personal quest in developing a unique, personal aesthetic which is being realized in the pursuit of his self-labeled arts and architecture brand, TOZIER.

Tozier is partnering with the Space Telescope Science Institute, Nasa, and the ESA in authorizing the production of an exhibition and limited edition collection of spectacular and historical images of our universe taken by the Hubble Space Telescope and other imaging space craft. Selected images will undergo a painstaking interpolation process for output in super large display formats. Final photographic prints are to be produced by state-of-the-art methods developed by the studio of world renowned photographer, Peter Lik Studios. The exhibition and availability of the limited editions will coincide with the de-orbiting/de-comissioning of the Hubble Space Telescope sometime in 2013-2014.
Tozier is partnering with world class rug manufacturer, Fabrica International in developing, "The Butterfly Series"; an area rug concept of unprecedented technical undertaking. The project is translating high resolution digital nature photography files into a meticulous hand-tufted manufactiring process. The result will integrate yarns of varying type, color, and sheen in reproducing gradients, textures and optical effects produced in nature. The rugs are being developed for exhibition at Design Miami in late 2010 and for shows worldwide in 2012.
